Healthy at Home: Wellness Spaces in Design

July 17, 2026

Wellness no longer has to mean leaving home. Thoughtfully designed spaces for movement and recovery can become a natural part of daily life. From indoor courts to private spa suites, these environments go beyond the traditional gym, creating space to stay active or slow down while supporting both body and mind.

A versatile sports court accommodates basketball, tennis, and pickleball, while an adjacent climbing wall offers another way to stay active.

A spiral staircase leads from the private suite to a secluded wellness level. The spa includes a massage room, hydrotherapy shower, and a hot tub paired with a cold plunge. A lower-level sundeck links these restorative spaces to a yoga studio, gym, climbing wall, and flexible sports court.

In Nantucket, an outdoor shower offers an easy place to rinse off after a swim or a day at the beach. Tucked into the home’s shingled exterior, it creates a quiet pause outdoors.

At this New York City residence, a fully equipped fitness center and steam room make wellness part of the everyday routine. Residents can fit in a workout or take time to unwind without leaving the building.

At this modern East Hampton retreat, wellness becomes part of the outdoor experience through a private shower wrapped in Nakamoto Forestry wood. Framed by the surrounding landscape, it offers a simple place to reset and enjoy a moment in the fresh air.

Beyond the main fitness area, residents have access to additional workout equipment, a second indoor pool, and a second sauna. Together, these spaces make it easy to move from a workout into recovery.

A vaulted ceiling and warm wood paneling give this home gym the comfort and character of the rest of the house. Filled with natural light, it offers an inviting place to stay active at home.

One room is finished in mosaic tile, with softly curved walls and built-in seating that gives the space a sculptural feel. The wood-clad sauna is warmer and more traditional, with horizontal paneling, tiered benches, and a simple built-in ledge for towels or small essentials. Each offers its own way to slow down and recharge.
