As a furniture designer at Workshop/APD, Sarem Khan develops custom furnishings and collections that bridge artistic expression and technical precision. With nearly two decades of experience across furniture, product, and industrial design, Sarem brings a thoughtful approach shaped by concept development, manufacturing expertise, and a passion for creating objects that enrich everyday life.
Raised between Karachi, Dubai, and Canada, Sarem draws inspiration from the diverse landscapes and cultures that have shaped his perspective—from the deserts of the Middle East to the prairies of Alberta. After earning a degree in Industrial Design from the University of Alberta, he built a career designing furniture and products for commercial and residential clients across North America.
Prior to joining Workshop/APD, Sarem spent nearly a decade at Article, where he helped develop furniture collections that contributed to the company’s growth as a leading retailer. Earlier in his career, he worked within an architecture and interior design practice developing furniture lines and later applied his design skills to visual communication initiatives for a maternal health organization in Pakistan. In his current role, Sarem is inspired by the opportunity to create highly customized pieces that respond to a project’s unique character. He believes the most successful designs balance beauty, function, and craftsmanship while offering a sense of surprise and delight. Outside the studio, Sarem enjoys painting, photography, hiking, and playing guitar.
