Michael Hanslick AIA, NCARB, LEED

MLH

Raised on a family farm in Minnesota, Michael Hanslick was immersed in the rhythms of making and problem‑solving, an upbringing that continues to inform his thoughtful, tailored approach to architecture as a Senior Project manager at Workshop/APD. He began his academic career studying mathematics and art history at Carleton College, where he became interested in how buildings, objects, and artworks tell stories about the people, culture, and time that produced them. This dual interest led him to architecture after attending a summer program at Harvard, where he discovered a discipline that merged conceptual thinking with spatial, aesthetic, and experiential interests. He went on to earn a Master of Architecture from Columbia University.

Michael’s extensive professional experience spans residential projects from the Midwest, to New York, to Korea, and includes more than a decade running his own residential practice designing homes that balance material richness, spatial clarity, and a strong sense of place. At Workshop/APD, he oversees projects from concept through execution, combining detailed hands‑on design involvement with rigorous project management. He is particularly interested in how architecture is experienced—how light, proportion, materiality, and context shape the way a home feels over time. Outside the studio, Michael enjoys spending time with his family, following Timberwolves basketball, staying active, reading, and visiting museums.
