Project manager Kate Poppel’s dual expertise in landscape architecture and urban planning inform her work on complex master planning exercises where the relationship between structures, site, and the public realm is central. At Workshop/APD, she helps shape projects from the outside in – considering how a site connects to its larger context and how people move through and experience it across seasons and scales.
Kate has worked for a multitude of public, private, and non-profit organizations around the US and in Denmark and Sweden. Before joining Workshop/APD, she spent eight years as a lead planner and master planner at EDSA, with a focus on large-scale hospitality and destination environments as well as high-end residential landscape design. From the Caribbean to the Rocky Mountains, to the Red Sea region, she is passionate about aligning design intent with real-world constraints and balancing ecology, infrastructure, and long-term usability. In the community-facing planning processes, she is known for translating planning and design ideas into clear, accessible language that builds consensus and helps projects move forward. Most recently, Kate worked as a studio manager for a high-end residential landscape design/build in the greater NYC region, rounding out experience that supports her focus on expanding master planning and landscape design at Workshop/APD
Kate holds a Bachelor of Urban Planning and Design from the University of Cincinnati, and dual master’s degrees—a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Master of Urban Planning and Design—from the University of Washington. She is a member of the American Planning Association (APA) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Outside of work, she’s a soccer enthusiast and an avid traveler, exploring new places through design and photography. Kate is also active in her local community, volunteering with a community garden and a reading mentorship program.
