As a Project Manager at Workshop/APD, David Phan coordinates internal teams and a wide range of external consultants to guide projects through design, permitting, and construction. With a hands-on approach to project delivery, he oversees complex coordination across disciplines, supporting design intent through detailed technical execution. Raised in Tucson, Arizona, David studied architecture at the University of Arizona, where he developed an interest in the experiential and human aspects of residential design. He began his career in San Francisco, working with boutique firms focused on high-end single-family residences, where close-knit team environments demanded both rigor and adaptability. He later ran his own practice for seven years, sharpening his leadership skills, client communication, and ability to anticipate challenges across all phases of a project. David brings a communication-driven mindset to his role, valuing collaboration and clarity as essential tools for managing complex projects. He is drawn to the creative potential of real-world constraints – site conditions, budgets, and technical requirements – and believes that thoughtful coordination is key to elevating both process and outcome. Outside the office, he enjoys video games for their spatial and experiential design qualities, stays active at the gym, and frequently hosts friends for dinner and cocktails.
