Nicole Ficano’s sophisticated aesthetic vision – honed at top design firms on both coasts – is matched by an equal dedication to process. As principal, Nicole leads Workshop/APD’s interior design practice, collaborating across disciplines to bring complex projects to life at every scale. Nicole’s layered, luxurious designs are grounded in functionality and defined by a relentless pursuit of new techniques, forms, and materials. Ranging from modern urban homes to elegant single-family residences, her work effortlessly blends new, custom-designed, and found furnishings, gallery pieces, natural textures, and sculptural lighting.
The relationship between interior designer and client is especially intimate, and Nicole takes her role as an advisor and confidant seriously, thoughtfully reflecting and translating her clients’ needs and desires for the built environment. Each space is beautifully customized to the way clients truly live and executed with particular sensitivity to the client experience, as well as their budgets and timelines.
This highly tailored approach is also evident in her leadership at Workshop/APD, where she is passionate about mentorship and professional development, fine-tuning team members’ roles to best suit their individual talents and interests. With the unique perspective gained through regular collaboration with the firm’s architecture, product, and operations studios, she has also worked to streamline operations, improve workflow, and adapt business strategies for a wide range of personalities and project needs, with an eye towards strategic growth. A graduate of Cazenovia College in New York, Nicole holds a BA in fine arts with a focus in interior design. An avid equestrian who rides and competes in her free time, she also enjoys spending time on the water, cooking, and baking.
