On The Market: A Modern Vision for a Minneapolis Penthouse

April 11, 2021

Assembling the right team, from real estate agents to architects, designers, and builders, is crucial in creating a dream home. In an extremely competitive market, the right combination of information and expertise, talent and collaboration makes all of the difference, and we love working with colleagues in the real estate industry to help clients determine whether a property is right from them, from location and usage to budgets and design potential. The ability to see the process through from purchase to design development to move-in day allows us to fully realize a uniquely tailored holistic design, from capital “A” architecture to interior design and bespoke furnishings.

When the team at Prudden & Company asked Workshop/APD Minneapolis to take a look at a new listing, we were happy to partner with this top local real estate team. But the project itself was especially intriguing: help to create a refined, modern vision for a downtown triplex penthouse that had lingered on the market, possibly due to its hyper-specific Tuscan aesthetic. The resulting renderings tell a totally new story for the expansive home, and we look forward to one day bringing new life to the home with the right client. See the room-by-room transformation below, and learn more about the listing here.

Entry Foyer

To connect the home’s interiors and exteriors – including an unheard-of 1,500 square feet of outdoor space in the heart of downtown Minneapolis – we enlarged the windows and removed an unused fireplace. This creates a more flexible, all-seasons entry where residents and guests can take in sweeping city views.

Kitchen

The Workshop/APD set out to retain the functionality of the well-proportioned and equipped chef’s kitchen, while creating a bright, sophisticated stage for cooking, dining and entertaining.

Stairway

The staircase is a pure expression of the design’s  prevailing theme. the opening of all windows to the home’s outdoor space and sweeping views. The floating design takes the stairwell from dark and moody to airy and expansive.

Main Bedroom

Main Bathroom

The main bathroom gets a modern makeover with dual vanities, a deep soaking tub and patterned mosaic tile in the shower and WC that’s a playful take on the region’s Scandinavian heritage.
