The design of the Hotel Julian lobby and the accompanying About Last Knife steakhouse sought to evoke the industrial history of downtown Chicago and endow a sense of spaciousness to the less than 50-foot wide building.
The restaurant design maintained Marshall’s original brickwork, using it as a canvass for a mural of his visage, paying homage the leading architect and playboy.
"For the Hotel Julian lobby and the accompanying About Last Knife steakhouse we were inspired by a material palette that evoked the industrial history of Chicago. Concrete, wood, plaster, and steel were layered to provide depth within the space, while brass accents brought it into balance with new and polished materials.” Brook Quach, Design Director, Workshop/APD
